Have a new system or workstation to set up - 603 IT can help!
Here are the steps on how to set up a new computer:
Gather your materials.
- Your new computer
- A keyboard and mouse
- A monitor
- A power cord
- An HDMI cable (if your monitor does not have a DisplayPort or DVI port)
- Any other peripherals you want to connect, such as a printer, scanner, or speakers
- Find a good place to set up your computer. You will need a flat, stable surface that is large enough to accommodate your computer and all of its peripherals.
- Unpack your computer and remove any packing materials. Be careful not to damage any of the components.
- Connect your computer to the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord. Use the HDMI cable to connect your computer to your monitor. If your monitor does not have an HDMI port, you can use a DisplayPort or DVI cable.
- Plug in the power cord to your computer and to an outlet.
- Turn on your computer. Your computer will start up and you will be prompted to install the operating system.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the operating system. This process may take a few minutes or a few hours, depending on the speed of your computer and the operating system you are installing.
- Once the operating system is installed, you will be able to start using your computer.
Here are some additional tips for setting up a new computer:
- Make sure that you have enough space for your computer and all of its peripherals.
- If you are not sure how to connect your computer to your monitor, keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals, you can consult the user manual for your computer.
- If you are not sure how to install the operating system, you can consult the user manual for your computer or search for help online.
- It is a good idea to back up your important files regularly, in case your computer is damaged or lost.
- You should also keep your computer's software up to date, to protect it from security vulnerabilities.
